Inter-Region meeting with Lions club of Kanhangad

We had an Inter-Region meeting in Kanhangad with Lions Club of Kanhangad, on May 27th. We started from Payyanur in the afternoon, headed to famous Bakel Fort, spent the evening there. The meeting started at 7.30 pm. Lion Balan, secretary, Ln Dr Rajiv and Ln Prof Kamalakshan spoke on behalf of LC Payyanur. Ln Haris, President, Ln Gopi, Region Chairman spoke for LC Kanhangad. Everyone reminded about close association of the two clubs and good fellowship between us. Ln Krishnan, IPP was honoured in the meeting for bagging the best president award in the district.

Lions Sports Academy Volleyball Coaching camp May 2012

We conducted a volleyball coaching camp for the summer vacation in the month of May. Even in soaring heat, 60 students participated. Our coaches PP Krishnan and Kalpaka Govindan were enthusiastic as ever. They were assisted by Lion Gangadharan, secretary of Sports Academy, and a veteren volleyball player himself.

Club Tour April !!

We had a quite enjoyable club tour to Coorg - Virajpet on Apr 14-15th. A good representation of the club, including senior member KP Ahmed joined. Unlike the usual tours, we kept away from cities and shopping, stayed in a homestay, went trekking and other nature adventures. We stayed in a homestay (Mount View, of Mr Boppanna, 9448720665, who was very helpful) near virajpet, a nature-ful location surrounded by hills and lush greenery. We had a campfire on 14th, under stary skies. Our host served us tasty and simple dinner, and breakfast next morning. Morning walk was quite peaceful and relaxing, in the country road. Our host accompanied us, that day, first for a short trek. The climb was quite steep, but exhilarating. After that we visited a nearby small waterfalls. Then we visited a adventure activity center located in the depth of an estate (http://www.noworneverland.com/home.html). Some went in dirt bikes, which could traverse any sort of hilly road. The most exciting part of our tour was the jungle gym. It had 12 stages of activities, like tight rope walking. It was quite nerve wrecking even for the onlookers, but we finished it. There was facilities for rappelling too, over the water fall, but we didn't attempt it, as we were tired and hungry. We said good bye to Coorg after a late lunch in Virajpet (there are no good restaurants there, we had in a small place -Greens).

DCS PS Gopakumar  and Joint cabinet secretary Unnikrishnan also visited with him.

1. bedsheets to Gov Hospital at a cost of Rs 10,000/-
2. clothes to disabled girls' orphanage at Rs 15,000/-
3. Aid to MRCH (Malabar rehabilitation center for handicapped) Rs 10,000/-

Governor appreciated the projects and activities of LC Payyanur.

District Sixers cricket Tournament

Lions District Sixers cricket tournament was held on 12th Feb at Chinmaya School Ground, Annur, Payyanur. 7 teams participated. DG Ln K T Ajith MJF was the chief Guest. DIG Sri TJ Jacob, command in chief of CRPF Peringome, who is also an asian games swimmer and national swimming champion for 5 yrs, inaugurated the function. Matches were played in a very sporting and friendly atmosphere. Payyanur team emerged as victors.

Donation of wheel chairs

We donated 10 Wheel chairs to the disabled people this week, in various parts of Payyanur. The event was inaugurated by Municipal Chairperson Smt K V Lalitha on 7th Janurary, by donating 3 of the wheel chairs at Ladies Night function.
