Deafness screening camp

A deafness screening camp was organised in 3 schools : Chinmaya school, Annur UP school, and Karamel LP school. First, Ln Dr Padmanabhan , ENT specialist conducted a class for teachers, and explained them the importance of deafness screening, and how to do it. Then he held camps in all 3 schools on different days, and examined all students of LP section, together with Ln Dr V C Raveendran, ENT specialist. About 1000 students were examined, and given remedies. They were also given follow up examination at respective hospitals, free of cost. 

Lions sports academy Dec'11 camp.

Kicked off a 10 camp at Chinmaya school grounds on Dec 24th. Chinmaya school Principal Vimala Raveendran inaugurated. The camp is in football, volleyball and shuttle badminton. about 150 students including 50 girls of age 12-16 from various schools are participating. To and fro bus is arranged from payyanur, for free of charge. coaches : PP Krishnan, Kalpaka Govindan , KM Sophia, Murali (volleyball) , Anil Kumar, Lion VP Ramachandran (football), Naushad (badminton).

Zone conference held

We held our zone conference of Zone I, Region VI, District 324E5, on 11.12.11, Sunday at Uthradam resorts, Ettikulam.
It began with a tour to Ezhimala Naval Academy at 2.30pm. We spent our evening visiting the academy, left it at 5pm, and headed to Uthradam resorts.
Zone advisory was held at 5.30 and Zone conference started at 6.30pm. Presidents Ln Damodaran, cheruvathur , Ln Rajeevan Pallipuram, Nileshwar and T Jaffer, of LC Payyanur, Lioness Presidents of respective clubs, and Zone chairman Ln PCK nambiar spoke, and submitted reports. It was followed by various entertainments.

Home for homeless

Donated Rs 10,000/- to the homeless Karthiyani and her daughter. Ln Dr SD Prabhu handed over the money. Ln Dr Mohan Ramdas, Ln TJ Thomas and many other members attended the function. Municipal councillor Sasi Vattakovil also attended. 

Gynec Awareness class

 We conducted a Gynec camp at Govt Women's polytechnic, Korom. Dr Balamani Rajiv and Ln Dr Praveen Gopinath conducted the class. Ln Prof TV Kamalakshan, Ln Dr Rajiv, Ln Dr Suresh, Ln Vijayakumar Shenoy, President Ln T Jafar, Secretary Ln V Balan attended.

Sight first

conducted our sight first camp in Kavvayi, with the help of Comtrust eye hospital, Kanhangad. Municipal standing committee chairperson Shyamala inaugurated function. Ln Dr Mohan Ramdas, Ln Dr Suresh, Ln Unni Menon, IPP Ln Vijayakumar Shenoy attended. Ln Mustaffa was project director. 

Cyber crime awareness

Conducted cyber crime awareness class at Payyanur Girls' High school. SI of police Dinesh inaugurated. Er Dinesh Kumar conducted the class. 

Distributed dining utensils to Edamana UP School.

Distributed plates to Edamana UP school, madamangalam on 11.11.11.  to assist in their afternoon meal program. President T Jaffer handed over the plates. Secretary V Balan, IPP Vijayakumar Shenoy and Dr Praveen Gopinath attended. An awareness class by CI of Police was also held.

Major fund raiser - KPAC drama

Conducted a KPAC drama - Ayesha, as a major fund raiser program. Felicitated Sri M T Annur, who won best director award recently, and whose cinema - 'Kalchilambu' has been selected to indian panorama.

Diwali celebrations

Had family meeting on 30th October.

Sri T K narayanan Master, winner of president's award for best teacher was the chief guest, and he was honoured.

Winners of Sargotsavam were felicitated.

Diwali celebrated with lights, fireworks, sweets, dance and music.

Lioness Club project

our Lioness club conducted a project in Pilathara UP School on 26 Oct from 2 to 5pm. Speakers were from Community Medicine Dept, Pariyaram Medical College. They spoke on health, and social issues. Dr Sam Paul led the team of speakers. They made a audio visual presentation, involving all of the 300 students of the school. All Lionesses, led by Lioness Niranjana Nair attended the function.

Conducted Sight for Kids

We conducted sight for kids program in our club. The teachers training was given at regional level at Nileshwar in September. We sent teachers from 4 schools. They screened students from their schools and a second screening camp was held in Payyanur at St Mary's school on 9th October. 60 students were examined and 6 of them were given spectacles.

Peace poster contest

Conducted peace poster contest on Oct 2nd. All schools in Payyanur participated. The contest was at Lions Club hall, Thayineri, Payyanur. Ln Jayaraj Kuttamath convened the project in an excellent manner. Winners were given vouchers to buy books.

Celebrated Senior citizens' week and Gandhi Jayanthi

On october 2nd, we celebrated along with Senior citizens' forum, Payyanur, Gandhi Jayanthi and Senior citizens' week.

MLA of payyanur Sri C Krishnan inaugurated the function. Ex-MLA Sri K P Kunhikannan spoke about Gandhiji. Payyanur Kunhiraman master, noted writer, and also a member of senior citizens' forum, spoke on Senior citizens' welfare.

Onam @ Payyanur Lions club

Onam was celebrated on 11 sep. Ln Dr Suchitra Sudhir, VDG II was the chief guest. We also had guests from Mattanur and Cheruvathur clubs. ZC Ln PCK Nambiar, ACP Devikutty teacher were also guests.

Lioness club inaugurated

Ln Dr Suchitra Sudhir, VDG II inaugurated and installed our lioness club. Lioness Niranjana Madu was installed as new President, Lioness Jaseela Jasmir as secretary and Lioness Anupama Vijayakumar Shenoy as treasurer. ZC Ln PCK Nambiar, ACP Devikutty teacher participated in the function. They conducted their first service project - aid to endosulphan victims in association with other clubs in the region. 

Onam Kits to blinds' self help group

Today we distributed Onam kits to 'Asraya' blinds' self help group at Madamangalam. Ln Prof T V Kamalakshan, Ln T J Thomas and other lions participated. They prepared a Onasadya for us.

Tree planting

Participated in global tree planting campaign of International President Wing-Kun Tam. 250 sapplings were procured. They were planted in club premises and the rest were distributed to members.

Iftar & communal Harmony meet

today we celebrated an Iftar and communal harmony function. the meeting was well attended. We had lots of guests from public, Lions club of Cheruvathur, Rotary and Jayces. our ZC Ln PCK Nambiar attended. The leaders from various religions spoke. It was brief and in a very good atmosphere. Lots of children and family members attended.

Aid to poor Student

Financial Aid was given to Prajith KV, a good student of poor parents. Actually, his teacher brought the condition of this student to our notice. His father was a manual laborer, and could not afford his studies. They didn't have a secure house, and the existing structure started leaking in the rains, and his studies were disturbed. 

Medical Camp

Conducted a medical Camp in BEMLP school on 7/8/11 in association with Yenapoya Medical College, Mangalore. It was a free camp in which doctors in cardiology and gastroenterology consulted the patients, and blood sugar, ECG, Echo-cardiography and Ultrasound were also carried out for free.
Payyanur MLA Mr C Krishnan inaugurated the function. Ln Dr K Gopinath, Ln Dr S Rajiv, Ln Prof  TV Kamlakshan, Ln Dr M D Shanbag and many other lions were present for the inauguration function. Dr Balakrishna Pai, Dr Vijay Ramachandran, Dr Harish R and Dr Rahul of Yenapoya Medical College examined the patients.

Secretary's Report 2010-11

 Service projects:

Donated Wheel chair to a paralysed person, on installation day.

Provided relief supplies to 30 flood affected families in Kovvayi.

Donated chairs to newly constructed OP block of Payyanur Govt Hospital.

Did a drinking water projects in Peralam UP School, at a cost of Rs25000/-.

Provided a submersible water pump to a Blind's self help group in Madamangalam.

Donated Rs7,500/- to a family of two children, who are afflicted with chronic liver disease.

Home for homeless: Donated Rs10,000/- to two families.

Provided one month's supplies to a handicapped girls' orphanage at Kuttur.

Provided two steel book racks and books worth Rs10,000/- in memory of Sri TK Narayanan master to Kannan Nair memorial library in Kandangali.

Sports Academy: our ambitious project this year. conducted 3 camps, about 150 students participated in each. provided training to students from all schools in Payyanur, in volleyball, football and badminton.

Health camps:

•     Sight first camp at Kandoth LP school
•     Diabetes camp. Fr James Ariparambil inaugurated, and Dr Aboobecker conducted class. blood sugar estimation done.
•     Gynec camp at Universal engineering college. Dr Balamani conducted class.
•     Heart walk on world heart's day at Ezhimala top road. A lecture was conducted at Uthradam resorts afterwards.
