We fight diabetes

On the world diabetes day, we conducted diabetes awareness class and a detection camp for senior citizens of Mahadeva Desai Smaraka Vayanasala Vayojana Vedi (senior citizens forum) at Mahadevagramam, Payyanur. Dr Unnikrishnan Namboothiri gave a detailed awareness class. Basic investigations of blood pressure, blood sugar and blood grouping were done. President Jayaraj presided over the function. Lion Balan ZC was also present. 

Mid day meal at school

On Children's day, we served midday meal at Malabar Rehablitation center for Handicapped (MRCH) a school for differently abled children in Payyanur. PDG Dr K Damodaran was present on the occasion.

Financial aid to homeless children

We gave financial aid to homeless children anagha and sooraj, whose both parents were diseased lately. Their school, Annur UP School had started a fund for raising money from among themselves and from various organisations to help these children.  We donate Rs 15,000/- to the fund.

We donated Rs 20 thousand to a poor family for their daughter's marriage. President Jayaraj Kuttmath handed over the cheque. ward councilor Sajitha and thambayi and several lions were present on the occasion. 

Lions Quest teachers training workshop

We conducted Lions Quest (Skills for Adolescence) workshop at Payyanur. 30 teachers from 4 Schools (Chinmaya Vidyalaya, PES School, ISD school and SN school) were trained for 3 days. Senior trainer Dr Revati Balu MEd from Chennai trained the teachers. 

Lions Quest program is a program to be implemented in schools as a weekly program, to impart life skills for the students, and aim to improve their personality, time management and detract them from vices of youth. 

The teachers were given set of books published by Lions International, and also the books to be given to students. The club will ensure that the program is implemented in schools and students given the instructions as weekly classes. 

District Governor Lion Dr Suchitra Sudhir inaugurated the program on 8th November. 1st VDG Ln CA AJ Mathew attended the valedictory function on 10th Nov and distributed the certificates. Lions Quest District Chairman Leela Rajagopal and advisor Dr K Gopinath looked over the project assisted by Club President Jayaraj Kuttamath and secretary Ajith D Shenoy. 

Sight For Kids

We conducted SFK (Sight For Kids) screening camp in association with Comtrust eye hospital, Kanhangad at Lions Community hall, Thayineri. A team of 8 members consisting doctors, technicians, and nurses from Comtrust hospital participated. 

Teachers from 60 schools were initially trained to screen their students and they had selected 70 students to be further examined out of which 11 students were found to need glasses and they were given that. 20 other students needed further examination in the hospital, and they were appropriately guided. 

Blood group detection at Vidyamandir College

Conducted blood group detection camp at Vidyamandir college, Gandhi Park, Payyanur with  Mukunda Hospital. President Lion Jayaraj Kuttamath inaugurated the camp Lion Dr Praveen Gopinath gave a talk on blood grouping and blood donation. more than 200 students detected  their blood group and  registered in our blood donors directory.

Peace poster contest and observation of world elders day

We observed world elders day on 2nd Oct. 2013 at Lions hall with Kerala senior citizens forum- Payyanur unit.

Sri KV Nambiar IAS Ex. District collector inaugurated the Elders day celebration. we honoured senior Lion members with ponnada - Ln. Prof. Kamalakshan , Ln. Dr. K. Mohan Ramadas,  Ln. Dr. Janardhanan P.V, Ln. Dr. S.D.Prabhu, Ln. Dr. K.Gopinath MJF, Ln. Dr. K.Damodaran PMJF & Ln. T.J. Thomas. Adv. K.K. Nair spoke about the legal  & general awareness for the elders. PDG Ln. Dr. K. Damodaran PMJF  & Zone Chairman Ln. V.Balan felicitated the function. 

We also conducted peace poster contest on the same day at Lions Hall and  winners awarded cash prize.

Onam Painting Competetion

A painting competition was conducted  for school students as part of Onam celebration at lions community hall, Thayineri, on 21 st september 2013. the pictures were judged  prizes declared by Jayachandran, drawing teacher. Vismaya, St. Mary's school Payyanur was first prize winner. 2nd prize winner was  Unni Damodaran, Chinmaya School, Payyanur and 3rd prize went to Akshara Jayaraj, St. Mary's School Payyanur. 
Zone chairman Ln. V.Balan distributed cash prizes and felicitated the function. President Jayaraj, Secretary Ajith Shenoy, Treasurer Santhosh and Er Ratheesh participated and helped conducting the function. 

Walk for Heart - on World Heart Day

Zone conference held in Payyanur

Our dynamic Zone chairperson Lion V Balan held the first zone conference in Payyanur. As Lion Benny KC, President of Lions club of Taliparamba had passed away, the Onam celebrations were omitted and one minute silence was observed to remember the departed soul. Presidents of Payyanur, Nileshwar North, Velaarikundu, Cherupuzha and Parappa submitted their reports. One new member was inducted -Mr Suresh Kumar, businessman. Lion Balan in his concluding remark requested the clubs to implement permanent and valuable projects.  The meeting was followed with Onam Sadhya.

Onam Kits to blinds' self help group

Distributed 30 Onam kits including onam 'kodi' at Mathamangalam Ashraya swashraya sangam for blind. Senior member Dr S D Prabhu inaugurated the function. Donated to Students' treatment fund in BEMLP school

President and members visited BEMLP school, one of the oldest school in Payyanur and donated to 'Nallapaadam' treatment fund of the students.

Independence day Celebration

Tricolor flag hoisted at club premises by President Jayaraj Kuttmath at 9 am. sweets distributed. Then we joined students of Tapal LP School and gave them Khadi clothes for uniforms. Dr Rajiv distributed the uniforms.

Lions Sports Academy - Swimming coaching camp

Today we concluded the 2 week swimming coaching camp. The camp was inaugurated on SI of police Shaji Pattery on 21st July 2013.

 The camp was conducted with the help of Kerala Adventure Sports Promoting Academy, whose president is Lion Dr K Mohan Ramdas and secretary Ln VP Ramachandran, who are both our members. KV Jayaram and Suresh Kuttamath provided the coaching to 30 children for 2 weeks.

VDG Lion K Sujith MJF was present in the closing ceremony conducted today, 4th August 2013, and distributed the certificates.

Iftar meet 2013

We had Iftar meet on 27th July at our Lions Community Center. The fast breaking was at 7 pm, followed by prayer. Then we heard to our chief guest Umar Hudawi Poolappadem 's Iftar message. In the meeting we also honoured Sri Babu Kambrath who received national award for documentaries. He's a renowned wild life photographer, environmentalist and movie director.

Honoured Lion Dr Sreekhar D Prabhu on Doctors day

We honoured Lion Dr Sreekhar D Prabhu, a Senior Lion and a popular doctor of Payyanur, at his residence.

Jayaraj Kuttamath installed as new President

Lion Jayaraj Kuttamath was installed as President and Lion Ajith D Shenoy as secretary by VDG-I elect Lion CA A J Mathew MJF.  Lioness Balamani Rajeev was installed as Lioness President and Leo Niti menon as Leo President. Mr M Kannan was inducted as our new member by PDG Lion Dr K Damodaran PMJF.

Lions Dialysis center inaugurated

Our permanent project - Lions Dialysis was inaugurated on Sunday, 26th June by Sri P Karunakaran, Member of Parliament. Lions District 318E Governor Er Vineesh Vidhyadharan, DGE Dr Suchitra Sudhir, PDG Dr K Damodaran were also present. Dr Bijoy Antony, nephrologist of ACME, Pariyaram also graced the occasion.

We have spent about Rs 300,000/- for the project so far, and started with 3 dialysis machines. The money was raised through a public entertainment program held in Dec 2012, in which film actor Mukesh and Captain Raju had participated. It was for the first of its kind in northern Malabar area, particularly a very big program for the small town of Payyanur. About 13,000 people had gathered and Vice admiral of Indian Navy had participated. We also collected money from various philanthropic people of the area, particularly, Mr NC Prakash, and Sri AT Muhammed Kunhi, both of whom donated one machine at a cost of 500 thousand each. Our members Sri Sudhir babu and Sri T Jafar also donated Rs 300 thousand each.

The project was conceived and implemented by our dynamic president V Balan  with good support of all the members especially Dr Rajiv S. We have taken up the challenged of not only spending the money, but taking on ourselves the responsibility of running the center. Dialysis will be done at very nominal cost, and after further fund-raising, we hope to increase the number of machines, and thus reducing the cost to patient.

Sports Academy football coaching camp

We held a summer coaching camp during April- May. 28 children aged about 12 yrs participated including one girl. coach Anil and Lion Premkumar gave good training in football and physical fitness under the guidance of Lion Ramachandran. FC Kasargod coach Jixon also visited the camp.

May Family meeting hosted by President

It was a great occasion for Payyanur Lions club. we have just finished our best year so far in our 46 years history. This year we conducted a grand fund raising program, and are going to start a dialysis center in Payyanur in June. All this was achieved by sincere and persistent  efforts of our President V Balan. May 23 was his 50th birthday, so, he hosted his last family meeting of the year! what a way to end the year!!!

Birthday cake was sponsored by our Lioness President Niranjana Nair, who had a great stint as Lioness President too. our Lioness bagged all the prizes (most of them first prizes) on behalf of our district, in the National Lioness conference in Hyderabad this year. they performed and bagged several golds in our district sports event too.

Plaques for 5 new MJFs from the club were given to Er Ratheesh Kumar, T Jaffer, Lakshman Shenoy, Balakrishnan Kakkopuram and Sankaranarayanan.
