Lions Sushanth TV Cinema Award night in Payyanur

award night organised to start a dialysis center in Payyanur by Lions club of Payyanur. Cine actor Mukesh, Captain Raju, Madhubal and various TV stars participated. Navy Vice Admiral Pradeep Chowhan, CRPF DIG TJ Jacob, MLA C Krishnan were present. Lions DG Vineesh Vidhyadharan inaugurated. Lions club donated land for constructing special school for differentially abled children. Formal inauguration of fund raising for dialysis center was also done by Sri Mukesh by accepting cheque from Lion Dr K Gopinath. The program will be telecast on Dec 25th 4pm in Reporter Channel.

Zone conference in Alakode

2nd Zone conference was held in Alakode on 25 Nov. Payyanur club attended the meet in good numbers. President V Balan, Lioness President Niranjana Nair and Leo President Mohit Menon presented their respective reports.

Family meeting November

In November family meeting, we honoured Kalamandalam Latha, a renouned dance teacher, who runs Lasya Kala School in Pilathara, Payyanur.
All Past Presidents of the club were honoured by PDG Dr K Damodaran.
Lioness President Niranjana gave detailed report of our all-round performance in District Sargasangamam, and Payyanur club bagged over-all second prize.
Leos performed their group dance, led by Leo Mazhar Mustaffa and Leo Eshan Mustaffa.

Children's Park at Annur

We upgraded Lions Children's Park at Junior school in Annur. Lions club had previously donated slide there. This year we donated Merry-Go-Round and Sea-Saws. The Park was given a face lift.
On November 14th, Children's day, Lions gathered with the kids and their parents and grand parents in the school, and joined them in celebrating the occasion. Children were beautifully dressed in whites. PDG Dr K Damodaran spoke on the occasion.

New members induction and Leo Club formation

6 new members inducted to Lions Club of Payyanur on Oct 31st. PDG Ln Dr K Damodaran PMJF was the inducting officer. Lion Dr Praveen Gopinath MJF conducted the orientation.

Lion Dr Rajiv MJF inaugurated the Leo club. Leo Mohith Menon was installed as the new President. Leo Neeta Shenoy installed as the secretary and Leo Mazhar Musthaffa as the treasurer. Leo Karthikeyan is the 1st VP.

Hosted ZC-RC meeting

On Oct 14th, we hosted ZCs & RCs meeting at Uthradam Resorts, Ettikulam. DG Lion Vineesh Vidhyadharan, 1st VDG Lion Suchitra Sudheer and district PRO Lion Sujith participated. Most ZCs & RCs of the district were present. The resort itself is placed over the top of the Ezhimala Hill overlooking the surrounding plains. The other side of the hills holds the biggest Naval training academy of Asia.

Observed Gandhi Jayanthi and and Senior citizen's day

On October 2nd we held a meeting together with senior citizen's forum, Payyanur at Lions Hall, Thayineri. An elocution competition was held for school children. Noted writer and Gandhian Payyanur Kunhiraman master was the chief guest. Sri Vijayan Nambiar, District Governor of Y's mens club was guest of honour.

Peace Poster Contest

We held peace poster contest on October 2nd, the Gandhi Jayanthi day at Lions hall, Thayineri. Children from various schools in Payyanur participated. The first 3 place winners were given vouchers to buy books/painting materials.

Family meeting - honoured film director Moham Kupleri

Family meeting was held on 28th Sept at 8 pm, at Thayineri Lions' Hall. Famous film director Sri Mohan Kupleri was the chief guest.

sponsored 15 deferentially-abled children at MRCH

We donated Rs 150,000/- to MRCH (Malabar Rehabilation center for handicapped) , a school run to help the children who need special care. We donated it as sponsorship for 15 students at Rs 10,000/- per student. District PRO Ln K Sujith handed over the donation. Dr S Rajiv, V Balan, Dr Praveen Gopinath, Lakshman Shenoy and other members were present. Ln Balakrishnan sponsored a mid day meal to the students.
The school was originally started with 2 acres of land donated by Ln Uthradam Chandran.

Honoured Sri P Appukkuttan master on teacher's day

On Sep 5th, teacher's day, we honoured Sr P Appukuttan master, a much revered teacher and social worker. PDG Dr K Damodaran and Dr Rajiv spoke facilitating him. 

Distribution of hearing aid

We distributed 25 hearing aid each worth Rs 15,000/-, in a program held at Sree Sankara Sanskrit university, Payyanur. The program was held in association with National institute of speech & hearing. Our deafness committee chairman Dr Padmanabhan was the chairman of the meeting.

Onam kit distribution at Blind's self help group

As a continuum of our various project at Ashraya Swashraya group at Madamangalam, a self help group of visuall impaired people, we gave them Onam kits this Onam season. RC Dr Rajiv S gave away the kits.

 

Zone Conference and Onam Celebrations

1st Zone conference was held on 26th August in Lions Hall, Payyanur. All 5 clubs of the zone, Payyanur, Alakkode, Sreekandapuram, Chemperi and Cannanore North participated. Cannanore North won the men and mileage award. All 5 clubs presented their activity reports, and they are going ahead full speed with their activities. They have taken up major projects for the year, aims to acheive more membership.

The meeting was followed by variety entertainments, led by Dr Padmanabhan and Dr AV Sreekumar. Lioness of Payyanur presented Thiruvathirakali. Food was sumptous Onam Sadhya.

Iftar at Lions Payyanur

Iftar was organised at Lions club Payyanur on Aug 15th. started with a fast-break, and prayer. Katheeb - C K Munavir was the chief guest. He delivered a beautiful Ramzan message of peace and brotherhood. Our member Dr KPO Sulaiman also spoke on the occasion. It was followed by dinner, together with sweets prepared by our Muslim members.

Swimming camp closing ceremony

VDG Lion AJ Mathew was the chief guest. all participants were given swimming apparel as a compliment, and certificates. There held an exhibition by the participants, in swimming and other skills in water. coach Jayaram and Suresh Kuttamath explained the various techniques to the audience, consisting parents and the Lions.

Kicked off Swimming camp as a part of Lions Sports Academy

Lion sports academy with the help of Adventure sports academy of Payyanur has started a free swimming coaching camp for children. Dananjaya Babu, SI of Police inaugurated the program. Lion Dr Mohan Ramdas, who's also the president of Adventure sports academy, Adv Narayanan Nair, Lion VP Ramachandran who is also the secretary of Adventure sports academy, Ln Dr K Gopinath who was instrumental in carrying on the sports academy for two years, Lion Gangadharan who first proposed the project of Lions sports academy and has been it's convener ever since, Mr Jayaram, who has coached more than 25000 children in swimming, Mr Suresh Kuttamath, brother of our Treasurer Jayaraj, who has assisted Jayaram for last 25 years, were present in the inauguration ceremony.

Attended Cabinet Installation

22 members attended District Cabinet Installation held on July 15th at Calicut. we witnessed the installation of cabinet of our Governor Lion Vineesh Vidhyadharan, by past International President Lion Ashok Mehtha. He also inaugurated the district website designed by our member Lion Dr Praveen Gopinath and congratulated him. We sponsored 5 MJFs this year, out of 37 from the whole of the district, all of whom were congratulated by the PIP, and our club president Lion V Balan too was congratulated.

Celebrated Doctors' Day

Only July 1st our members visited one of the oldest doctor of Payyanur, Dr K U Bhaskaran Nambiar, popularly known as Kuppadakkan doctor. our PDG Lion Dr K Damodaran honoured him. Dr K Gopinath, Dr S D Prabhu, Dr S Rajiv, Dr Praveen Gopinath, Ajith Shenoy, Vijayakumar Shenoy, V Balan, Jayaraj Kuttamath attended. It was quite emotional moment for the seniors, since Dr KUB Nambiar was a charter member and was quite active until recently in Lions club of Payyanur.

Installed a 'press box' at bus stand, Payyanur

We installed a board with individual mail boxes for each news paper at the old bus stand, for the public to put in their news items to the press. It was inaugurated by Municipal Chairman, K V Lalitha on 30th June.

V Balan installed as new President

Our new team of office bearers headed by Lion V Balan, assisted by his secretary Lion Laxman shenoy MJF and treasurer Lion Jayaraj Kuttamath were installed on 28th June by VDG Lion Dr Suchitra Sudhir MJF, in a very colourful function. Ln Dr K Damodaran PDG released the club bulletin, which was beautifully released by Lion Jayaraj. 5 new members were inducted : Ajith Shenoy, Siju Nambiar, Jayaraj, Surendran and Balakrishnan.

Inter-Region meeting with Lions club of Kanhangad

We had an Inter-Region meeting in Kanhangad with Lions Club of Kanhangad, on May 27th. We started from Payyanur in the afternoon, headed to famous Bakel Fort, spent the evening there. The meeting started at 7.30 pm. Lion Balan, secretary, Ln Dr Rajiv and Ln Prof Kamalakshan spoke on behalf of LC Payyanur. Ln Haris, President, Ln Gopi, Region Chairman spoke for LC Kanhangad. Everyone reminded about close association of the two clubs and good fellowship between us. Ln Krishnan, IPP was honoured in the meeting for bagging the best president award in the district.

Lions Sports Academy Volleyball Coaching camp May 2012

We conducted a volleyball coaching camp for the summer vacation in the month of May. Even in soaring heat, 60 students participated. Our coaches PP Krishnan and Kalpaka Govindan were enthusiastic as ever. They were assisted by Lion Gangadharan, secretary of Sports Academy, and a veteren volleyball player himself.

Club Tour April !!

We had a quite enjoyable club tour to Coorg - Virajpet on Apr 14-15th. A good representation of the club, including senior member KP Ahmed joined. Unlike the usual tours, we kept away from cities and shopping, stayed in a homestay, went trekking and other nature adventures. We stayed in a homestay (Mount View, of Mr Boppanna, 9448720665, who was very helpful) near virajpet, a nature-ful location surrounded by hills and lush greenery. We had a campfire on 14th, under stary skies. Our host served us tasty and simple dinner, and breakfast next morning. Morning walk was quite peaceful and relaxing, in the country road. Our host accompanied us, that day, first for a short trek. The climb was quite steep, but exhilarating. After that we visited a nearby small waterfalls. Then we visited a adventure activity center located in the depth of an estate (http://www.noworneverland.com/home.html). Some went in dirt bikes, which could traverse any sort of hilly road. The most exciting part of our tour was the jungle gym. It had 12 stages of activities, like tight rope walking. It was quite nerve wrecking even for the onlookers, but we finished it. There was facilities for rappelling too, over the water fall, but we didn't attempt it, as we were tired and hungry. We said good bye to Coorg after a late lunch in Virajpet (there are no good restaurants there, we had in a small place -Greens).

District Sixers cricket Tournament

Lions District Sixers cricket tournament was held on 12th Feb at Chinmaya School Ground, Annur, Payyanur. 7 teams participated. DG Ln K T Ajith MJF was the chief Guest. DIG Sri TJ Jacob, command in chief of CRPF Peringome, who is also an asian games swimmer and national swimming champion for 5 yrs, inaugurated the function. Matches were played in a very sporting and friendly atmosphere. Payyanur team emerged as victors.
